My chosen example is the branding & visual identity for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest hosted in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine. This amazing piece of work was created in a collaboration between design agencies Design Bridge from the UK and Starlight Creative from Ukraine. This was truly a unique design challenge as it was the first time a country had co-hosted the song contest on behalf of another.
The design issue here was to find a way to create something that reflects that this is Ukraine’s year which is happening in Liverpool whilst feeling inclusive of all the competing nations. The final communication output was inspired by the creative idea: "160 million hearts beat as one", with the theme 'United by Music' reflecting on Eurovision’s massive global viewing figures. Combined with a visual expression, that of a sound wave using many hearts that beat together as one. A universal concept that is as culturally relevant and accessible in the UK and Ukraine, as it is across the world.
